New options for the R&S®FSV signal and spectrum analyzer

Jan 26, 2010 - Two new options make the R&S®FSV signal and spectrum analyzer even more versatile than before. The R&S®FSV-B24 adds a pre-amplifier to the R&S®FSV13, R&S®FSV30 and R&S®FSV40 and operates at the maximum frequency of these R&S®FSV models. The R&S®FSV-B17 option adds a digital baseband input and output for baseband I/Q data to the instrument.

Now two different optional pre-amplifiers are available for the R&S®FSV signal and spectrum analyzer. The R&S®FSV-B22 option supports frequencies up to 7 GHz and can be installed in any model of the R&S®FSV family. For the R&S®FSV13, R&S®FSV30 and R&S®FSV40 microwave versions, the new R&S®FSV-B24 option provides pre-amplification from 100 kHz to 13 GHz, 30 GHz or 40 GHz. There are three versions of the option to match the frequency range of the three instrument versions mentioned above. Featuring a noise floor of typ. –162 dBm at 26 GHz and –156 dBm at 40 GHz, the options are designed especially for customers demanding maximum sensitivity for measuring the noise factor or very low-level signals, or for finding spurious emissions.

When using the R&S®FSV-B17 option to connect the R&S®FSV signal and spectrum analyzer to an R&S®EX-IQ-Box, the baseband I/Q output from a device can be analyzed with the same R&S®FSV that is used to analyze the RF output. General-purpose vector signal analysis and many standard-specific measurement applications (for example for LTE, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, CDMA2000, WiMAX™ or WLAN) offer in-depth analysis of the baseband I/Q data. 28 MHz of analysis bandwidth is installed as standard; for up to 40 MHz analysis bandwidth, the R&S®FSV-B70 option is available. When configured as an output, the R&S®FSV signal and spectrum analyzer equipped with the R&S®FSV-B17 option, in combination with an R&S®SMU vector signal generator equipped with baseband input and fading options, can be easily set up as an RF fader (see Application Note 1MA145).
