Thermostat- or program-controlled devices such as washing machines or air conditioners generate discon-tinuous interference, also referred to as click interference. Since this interference is aperiodic, reduced limit values - compared with those applicable to continuous interference - apply. To determine the extent of the specified limit values, manufacturers have to measure the time period of the clicks, their repetition rate (click rate) and their levels. CISPR14 and EN55014 specify limit values for RFI voltage with a click rate weighting in the frequency range from 0.15 MHz to 30 MHz. Using the R&S ESCI and the free-of-charge Click Rate Analyzer software, this is child’s play.
