What is the R&S®ZVT?

The R&S®ZVT is the world's first 8 GHz/20 GHz vector network analyzer to offer up to eight/six test ports in a single unit. Its design, operation, functions, and specifications are very similar to those of the R&S®ZVA. The R&S®ZVT comes without a display and keypad. The R&S®ZVT and the R&S®ZVA have identical firmware.

The two-port R&S®ZVT base unit can be expanded to include up to eight/six ports by adding the corresponding additional port options. An R&S®ZVT with more than two ports can measure the S-parameters of coaxial multiport DUTs and the mixed-mode S-parameters of balanced DUTs.

The R&S®ZVT is primarily designed for system applications in which it is remote-controlled via IEC/IEEE bus or LAN. By adding an external monitor, mouse and keyboard, the R&S®ZVT can also be manually controlled. As the R&S®ZVT features the same Windows-based mouse operation as the R&S®ZVA and R&S®ZVB network analyzers, it can also be operated manually in the lab by means of pull-down menus.

The R&S®ZVT is based on a true multiport architecture. Each port is equipped with a reflectometer that consists of a VSWR bridge, a measurement receiver, and a reference receiver. There is an independent source for each pair of reflectometers. Based on this concept, the R&S®ZVT can perform measurements on all ports of a DUT simultaneously. This considerably reduces the number of sweeps in multiport measurements, in particular as compared with multiport systems based on switching matrices.

In addition, direct channel access can be provided for each port. With the direct generator/receiver access options, the signal paths of the receivers and generators are taken directly to the front panel by means of a removable 3.5 mm jumper. You can directly access the generators and receivers of all reflectometers ahead of the reference path, since the internal VSWR bridges and couplers are bypassed.
