With the internal digital GPS option R&S R&S®SMATE-K44 the R&S®SMATE200A Vector Signal Generator can simulate dynamic signals for the Global Positioning System with up to four satellites per baseband. In case of a 2-path instrument equipped with two basebands and two R&S®SMATE-K44 options, up to 8 satellites can be simulated and controlled within one dialog. Since the signal generation is done in realtime with actual almanac data, the satellite signals are realistic.
In Generic Mode, static satellites with constant Doppler shifts are provided for simple receiver tests, like for example sensitivity tests.
In Localization Mode dynamic satellites according to a real almanac file are simulated. Hence, the connected GPS receiver can obtain a valid 3D position fix at a user-defined location. The whole configuration of visible satellites and the generation of the ephemeris out of the uploaded almanac is done automatically by the R&S®AMU200A. The user only needs to specify time and location. So, a realistic scenario with an optimal satellite constellation, i.e. a minimum Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP) is achieved.
The GPS functionality of the R&S®SMATE200A can be enhanced with the option Assisted GPS R&S®SMATE-K65. It is only available for 2-path instruments equipped with two GPS options R&S®SMATE-K44. The option R&S®SMATE-K65 enhances the R&S®SMATE-K44 with functionalities required for A-GPS test scenarios for 3GPP FDD and GSM. However, the R&S®SMATE-K65 is not limited to be used in A-GPS testing exclusively. For testing of stand-alone GPS receivers it is useful as it allows to simulate moving receivers and offers the possibility to create user-defined GPS scenarios. Full flexibility is offered on the simulated satellites including definition of the satellites’ orbits, the complete navigation message and the ionospheric model of each satellite.
