Production testing of integrated wireless communications solutions

An important step in the production of mobile stations is the alignment of the RF transceiver. For this purpose, the deviations from normal conditions in the transmit and the receive path are determined for the frequency and level, and the results are stored in correction tables for the device under test (DUT). The correction data is subsequently used for error compensation when the mobile station is in operation. This ensures compliance with RF level accuracy as specified in the standard.

RF alignment calls for numerous single measurements with different frequency/level settings. A specific alignment algorithm is therefore required for each DUT. The R&S®Smart Alignment concept — based on the List mode functionality of the RF generator and the RF power meter — makes it possible to reduce alignment time to a minimum.

Verification of RF parameters and protocol functions of Mobile WiMAX™ mobile stations in signaling mode

Both the physical layer (PHY) and the protocol layer (MAC) of Mobile WiMAX™ mobile stations are verified under real-life conditions. This test is performed using the realtime signaling function of the R&S®CMW270, which emulates a Mobile WiMAX™ base station.

  • TX burst power and error vector magnitude (EVM)
  • End-to-end testing
